Dhadak 2 is encountering challenges in securing clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) due to its depiction of caste discrimination. Concerns over several scenes and dialogues have surfaced, potentially causing further delays in its release.
Initially slated for a November 2024 release, Dhadak 2 was later postponed to 2025, with reports suggesting a possible Holi weekend debut. However, with Holi just two weeks away and no promotional activities underway, a release on such short notice seems unlikely.
Adding to the uncertainty, the film is reportedly facing delays in securing clearance due to its content. According to Bollywood Hungama, Dhadak 2 tackles caste issues and presents a hard-hitting narrative. While the Central Board of Film Certification's (CBFC) Examining Committee (EC) appreciated the filmmakers for addressing such a subject, they are still deliberating on the film’s rating and whether any scenes need to be cut.
The report further states that the makers of Dhadak 2 will not begin promotions until they receive full clearance from the CBFC. If approval comes through soon, they may still proceed with their initial March 14 release plan.
Dhadak 2 is a remake of the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal, which did not face any hurdles during its CBFC clearance. This has led to questions regarding the current delays, with one report stating, "Since Dhadak 2 follows the same story, why is it facing resistance when Pariyerum Perumal had no issues?"
The film’s motion poster also hinted at its caste-based theme, featuring the tagline: "Ek tha raja, ek thi rani. Jaat alag thi, khatam kahani." The background further included the phrase "Dalit Lives Matter," reinforcing its social message.
While a Holi weekend release seems unlikely, Dhadak 2 is still expected to hit theaters sometime in 2025. Directed by Shazia Iqbal, the film stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri in lead roles.
